Triple Impact Through Focused Outcomes and Structured Activities

The Centre’s work is guided by a clear impact agenda, oriented towards achieving regional objectives of mitigating and adapting to climate change by increasing financing for green economic activities and building a favourable investment environment in the global south. All countries will experience greater occurrence of heatwaves, droughts, and floods. The introduction of the Centre is imperative to redirect climate flows and mobilize capital to support adaptation and mitigation measures where it is needed mostly and is most effective.

Increase developing countries climate resilience:

The Centre aims to directly support the growth of climate resilience solutions in the region by deploying finance directly through its investment arm. In addition, the centre will incentivize financial institutions to green their loan portfolios, leading to a surge in green projects. Empirical studies suggest that the development of green finance promotes the improvement of the ecological environment.

Support policy development to create a conducive regulatory environment:

The centre will focus on creating an enabling regulatory environment for green finance and private sector players. The centre will create channels of communication and open dialogue between financial institutions and regulators to foster cooperative efforts to generate effective and transformative policy in green finance. An enabling regulatory environment can lead to an increase in private sector finance, international finance, and investments, which can drive climate technology diffusion and improve access to international markets.

Drive private sector engagement and collaboration in tackling climate issues:

The Centre will be actively involved in engaging the private sector to mobilise green investment, promote green private sector development, and harness skills and knowledge for addressing climate change in developing countries. This will include building capacity within financial institutions, running workshops, facilitating peer-to-peer learning and cross-sector collaboration. The centre will also generate research and develop innovative financial solutions and instruments to generate investable green projects that can generate profit and be sustainable.
